As ACTOR enters the front door of Dr. Smith’s house, he is greeted with an excited smile from the doctor. Eager to know what brought about the sudden call, ACTOR is visibly curious. Dr. Smith, unable to contain his excitement any longer, is eager to show the results of his recent experiment.
With a sly grin, he leads ACTOR into another room, a living room by the looks of it. “You’ve got to see what I did. I gave myself a present, and what’s the good of a present if you can’t show it off to your friends?” Dr. Smith exclaims, clearly proud of his creation.
As they reach the living room, Dr. Smith calls out, “Hound! Here, boy. Come on-come to Master!” In an instant, a figure appears in the doorway, bounding towards them. But this is no ordinary guest, this is Amir, naked and on all fours with a collar around his neck. He has been completely transformed into a dog, obediently following his master’s commands, and full of barks and growls.
With a wide grin, Dr. Smith encourages ACTOR to play with Amir. “Go ahead-play with him. He’s just a big dumb dog, but he knows all kinds of tricks.” Amused by the bizarre situation, ACTOR indulges in some playful games of fetch and tries a few simple commands. Finally, he takes a seat on the couch or in a chair, and Amir rests his head on ACTOR’s lap, his tongue lolling out of his mouth. Astonished, ACTOR turns to Dr. Smith and says, “This is crazy. How did you do it?”
“Well, it’s kind of a funny story.” Dr. Smith begins, as the scene fades to black. The rest of the script is a flashback, revealing the intriguing story of how Amir became Dr. Smith’s loyal hound.
But for now, as Scene X approaches, we return to the present, with ACTOR and Amir enjoying each other’s company, blissfully unaware of the events that are about to unfold. With a sense of anticipation, the audience is left to wonder what will happen next in this unlikely, but intriguing, tale.
In just a few short minutes, Dr. Smith has managed to capture ACTOR’s attention and curiosity with his eccentric creation. As the story unfolds, we are left to question the lengths Dr. Smith will go to in order to satisfy his ambitions. Will ACTOR become a victim of his experiments, or will he emerge as a hero in the face of adversity? Only time will tell.
